The minimalist ambient stylings of Ricky Eat Acid and arrange should be unfamiliar to no one, but unfortunately, there are those who still haven’t seen the light. Both artists released excellent albums already this year – Ricky Eat Acid’s Haunt U Forever via Chill Mega Chill and arrange’s self-released debut Plantation – and both are worth lots and lots of your time.
Ricky Eat Acid (the nom de plume of Sam Ray, who, as of yesterday, now has an official Facebook page that you should all go “like”) and Arrange (who’s actually Malcom Lacey – also over here) have musically crossed paths before, with the former’s remix of Arrange’s “When’d You Find Me” earlier this summer.
But now the two have a proper collaboration track, “P. S. L. W.,” which hit the internet this week. Listen to the track below:
The track combines what you’d expect from a track from the artists – Lacey’s emotional vocals and melodic piano, and Ray’s simultaneously hyperactive and subtle beats – and the result is absolutely fantastic. The tune is relaxed, but remains powerful and engaging, with a well-crafted sense of melancholy that just doesn’t let you go. I, for one, certainly wouldn’t mind hearing more from these two together – they’re very clearly well-suited for each other, sonically – which Lacey implied may happen in the future. We know for sure that Ray is working on a new album, and Lacey plans to release an EP entitled Five Years With The Sun in the near future.
As always, I encourage you to support these artists as much as possible – these are two of the brightest young minds in music today, and you really should pick up their respective records if you get a chance. I wait with bated breath for something new from these guys, and you should be anticipating it just as much.
